Both restaurants are currently (and in Victoria's case permanently) closed.
As a direct result of the water damage caused by our upstairs neighbour at Victoria last April, Stoneglad Limited, the company operating Picante Mexican Grill, had to go into liquidation.
The flood closed us down for 13 long weeks. We battled hard to re-open, but when we finally did so in July business was down over 20% - not enough to cover the stupendous amount of debt accumulated during the closure. With further delays while gearing up to open Blackfriars - thanks to a faulty water pump causing yet more flooding... - it quickly became unsustainable.
At the end of January we made the incredibly hard decision to close both restaurants. We are a family business - it's just the two of us, with no trust fund, business angels or lottery win, and no money left in the bank.
The good news is that Jason's fantastic recipes, his passion for great Mexican food, the Picante Mexican Grill name and logo did NOT belong to Stoneglad. They're ours... and we intend to use them again.
Victoria will not come back thanks to the problem neighbour still in residence (quite literally like a sword over our heads.)
We are working hard, however, to resurrect Blackfriars: we're talking to the landlord to negotiate a new lease, but if this fails we'll be looking for a new unit. We'll keep you posted. We have big plans, and a big collection of mouth-watering recipes that we'd love to serve you.
Please join our mailing list (we'll never spam you or share your details) so we can keep you abreast of what is going on.
Also please don't be shy and feel free to be in touch if you have any bright ideas, know of a killer (yet affordable) location or have money to invest (every little helps) - we'd love to hear from you.
In the meantime, thanks for your support, and hopefully see you very soon.
